Goslings becoming Geese

Come spring the Canadian Geese arrive and breed. The chicks are cute and the parents not too overly protective. I was surprised to learn that the birds come back to roost where their parent roosted. It explains, in part their ever-increasing numbers.
This picture was cropped to 8×10, and very little was done in post processing. I took a couple of dozen shots of the chicks that day, in crowds, alone etc. This one shot stood out and I set it aside, I spent some time thinking about why. The direct stare, the fine detail, the separation from the background, the composition (hint of parent, hint of kin), I am really not sure, but I do like it. Sometimes what our eye likes is a mystery and so be it.
