Bird on a Pedestal

We went to a place everyone raves about for bird photography. We had been disappointed there in the past and this day looked no different until we saw this bird.
One problem I would think all nature photographers face is shooting through narrow openings. In this case we had trees on all sides, you can see the reflections of the leaves in the water. The lighting was poor and best suited for spot metering.
The bird, a Plover or Sandpiper never took its eyes off of us. It was a perfect shot on an otherwise dull day.
