The repeating patterns in some flowers verge on optical illusions, and like leading lines they capture our eyes’ attention.
The draw of macro photography is that things look different up close. When we become familiar with things it means we no longer look at them closely. We miss details as we rush about. Taking the time to see and capture details has many merits.
The increasing limits placed on the use of cameras in public places do not apply in the natural world. Of course some gardens, zoos and aquariums charge fees or have rules, but in the wild there are no such restrictions. More importantly unlike many famous landmarks and monuments, not everything has been photographed a million times. Chances are your photograph will be unique.
