The poppy has a special place in Commonwealth Countries as a symbol of remembrance of those lost to wars. This specific example stood alone on a stone pathway in a garden. I took several photographs of it in different light over a number of days.
My final selection was a typical top down look with a deep depth of field sufficient to catch the details of the flower and the pathway out of focus.
Modern photographic post-processing software combined with high-density sensors enables us to capture detail as never before and focus our audience’s attention on our subject. Tonal contrast, lifting out the shadows and sharpening are all tools worth learning, even if your approach like here, is a bit hackneyed.
