Common Sanddragon – Dragonfly

Dragonflies get more spectacular as summer progresses. It’s not just that their colors change, it’s that their numbers grow and their interactions become more visible. Unfortunately their numbers seem down in our part of the world this year.
Different types of dragonflies perch in different ways off stalks, the wind buffets them and yet they hang on. Their incredible radar–like eyes enable their hunt for other insects. It is great to watch them dive-bomb the lake seeking refreshment.
Their pairings in mid-air, which unfortunately I have yet to capture this year, are a wonder to watch.
This Dragonfly hung on in high winds to his perch, with his tail flying up and down. I could not resist capturing his portrait.
