When you take a lot of bird photographs you get to realize there is a set of expressions you can expect from them. For example, the hundred yard stare (looking for food), or the cocked head (“what am I looking at” look) and my favorite the one here (the “what do you want” look).
Under normal circumstances of a bird in a tree, I will take at least a dozen shots to ensure I get a sharp, interesting photograph. It might be excessive but it is worth it to get a shot like this.
