A Little Thing (Cabbage White)

Cute little butterfly, one of the smallest and you can guess this given the context. The condition of the leaf suggests that summer has moved along. The butterfly’s wings look ready for a quick take off. There may not be a deep story here but elements of the photo tell you things. It would be nice if every photograph was so eloquent.

  1. There is a subtle simplicity and beauty to the shot. What i like the most is the shadow on the leaf, the butterfly is quite translucent and just by having the shadow there for me it really anchors the image.

  2. Victor, lovely shot. Do you by any chance know the scientific name for this butterfly. Looks similar to our Small White, Pieris rapae.

    • Thanks and Yes. Pieris rapea most common butterfly in Ontario and and an invader from the UK first seen in 1860. The new Royal Ontario Museum Field Guide to Butterflies of Ontario is out. Better than most

  4. I keep noticing the line between the butterfly and the torn leaf. Very nice.
