Thistles (Two Photographs)

It’s not that the thistle is the symbol of Scotland, but why it is that has always fascinated me. The Norse invaders silently moved to attack on the Scots, only to be undone by one of their own stepping barefoot on a thistle. Failure and success are two sides of a coin. Worth thinking about when a shoot goes wrong. The fields were full of thistles when these photos were taken and their resilience in the face of bad weather kept the color in the fields.

  1. The colours in the top photo remind me of Scotland. I took some photos of Thistles in Sutherland which is about as high up as you can go without falling off. The midges very nearly ate me alive.
