Skipper in the Field

This photograph was taken mid summer and these butterflies were fairly common (unlike the more colorful and larger ones that were not in abundance this year). As butterflies go they are more tolerant of photographers than most and much more likely to stay put longer even when facing you. The main difficulty is getting a good perspective. In post processing I crop the photograph, sharpen, remove noise and do some detail extraction. I find that these small creatures even when seemingly still, move minutely and that without some careful sharpening and detail extraction they can look a bit fuzzier than when you saw them.

  2. It looks fine Victor especially the way the black tip of the antenna contrasts with the wing.

  3. I love how fuzzy it is and it has a sort of innocent look about it.

  4. Victor, this skipper seems to have human personality. It must be because of the way you’ve captured it.

    • Some of the naturalists who look at my photos are not pleased with my penchant for portraits 🙂
