Taking it Home (Two Photographs)

Here we have a muskrat taking his dinner home. The photographs are the best of a series. I am very pleased with the first one. The composition shows how unexpected the encounter was. The second shows some of the challenges of shooting beaver and muskrat in the water. Speed is always an issue but even more so is the oily wet fur, which catches the light in weird ways. The latter make tack sharp shots almost impossible with auto focus. Given the fast speed of these animals I am not certain manual would work much better. Its one of the those challenges that makes nature photography fun 🙂

    • Thanks. It was fast, noticing it and then shooting it all in a few seconds.
