Green Stink Bug (Two Photographs)

What an unfortunate name! Its Latin name is slightly more dignified – “Acrosterunum hilare”, a plant pest very common in North America. Common or not I had never seen one before quite like this. The bug had a determined walk but with no definite direction in mind. The photograph illustrates light fall off from flash. The background is simply too far away for the light. To shoot in natural light would have meant using much higher speeds and ISO, with less certainty of sharpness.

  4. I hate these things–they showed up in my garden and I was never again able to grow a squash. It got so bad I paid my kids to look for and dispose of every egg. It didn’t work. I guess chemical warfare works, but then, who wants to eat the result? Nice pictures, even though they raised my blood pressure.

    • Sorry about that. My interest is in the photography. I am learning about the insects as I go along.

      • Yes, and you captured the little pests perfectly. That’s why I had such a strong reaction when I saw your picture!
