What you don’t expect is when some benign insect turns towards you and advances as this butterfly did (it made focusing a challenge) 🙂

Hornets and some ants are aggressive, but most I find are quite peaceful. Although I’ve never been all that fearful of insects, even bees, your photos have increased my appreciation of their inherent beauty and diverse adaptations.

Speaking to entomologists and other insect photographers bites happen, but I do keep my distance and I take care not to be aggressive or interfere.

Same here. Part of it is the D7100 and the rest is experience. While it’s hard to see, my focus is on the eye, and my depth of field is not too tight. There is lot more I want learn and practice.
