Mallard takes a drink at the corner bar (Two Photographs)

This could be the start of a bad joke but as you can see from the photographs the duck got a good belly full. Given the choice between a portrait and taking an action sequence, I think every nature photographer would opt for the action. Usually that means that once you find an interesting animal, you hang around waiting for something to happen. The alternative is the sheer luck of happening on something interesting. The advantage of the amateur is that they can take their best shots and still get in their 10,000 steps a day routine without worrying about deadlines.

  4. Great combo, Victor, of interesting action, colorful subject, and gorgeous background, which resulted in some wonderful shots. I can’t recall more beautiful portraits of a male mallard in action.
