Scarlett Tanager (Five Photographs)

This male Tanager was most likely looking for a female companion. A group of us stumbled on him when looking for owls. We know what he was doing as he was attracted by a recording of the tanager song. Not my preferred way of attracting a bird, but the group seemed comfortable using it for a brief period. The bird flitted around trying to find the source of the sound, but once the sound was turned off it flew up into the canopy (we could hear it but not see it). It was an interesting experience and far too short-lived. You can see how the light and background changed as the bird moved about.

  1. The colors are so vibrant, and the detail of the bird “pops” against the background. Love your work! 🙂

  2. Look at him, singing his heart out! 🙂 Some great shots, Victor. I like the swirling bokeh in the second one, makes it feel ‘active’ somehow.

  4. They are beautiful! I especially like the second one and how the shape of the bird on the branch echos the light bokeh area. It has a sweeping feeling to it.

  8. Wonderful shots, Victor. The color of the bird is striking and the backgrounds are spectacular. The beautiful bird seems so cheery and appears to be smiling in some of your images.
