Raccoon Takes Notice (Two Photographs)

I have been told that raccoons are nocturnal. That this one was relatively small and awake tells me that it was young. One of the people we meet on the paths pointed it out to us. The usual park etiquette when you meet other photographers is to ask what they have seen. Often they will show you their finds on the back screens of their camera. Through conversation with fellow travelers you can learn a lot, even about a place you visit several times a week. Some are sworn to secrecy about delicate nests and that’s fair game. These shots were the best out of about fifty I took, not an easy shot with a strong color-cast and a small window through the foliage to shoot through. We stayed well back so as not to spook the raccoon but you can see that it saw us. When it was apparent we were becoming a preoccupation for the raccoon we moved on.
