It’s been a long time… (Two Photographs)

It’s been a long time since I photographed a hummingbird. I have this thing about taking photographs of birds at feeders. I do it, but I prefer the challenge of doing things in the wild without the hand of man. Hummingbirds are fast even at a feeder, you need to be more prepared than for other birds. I was shooting in aperture mode (not ideal), so the first is shot at 1/1000th of a second (close to ideal) and the second is at 1/400th of a second (far from ideal) but I did not have time to change settings. An advantage of feeders is that you can get a view from the side where the background is far enough away not to distract from the bird.  As there were a lot of distractions in these photographs I blurred the background in the first and lowered mid-tone saturation (vibrance) in the second to get rid of them.

  4. I don’t like photographing feeder birds either. Hummers are a challange. I like yours.
