American Goldfinch (Two Photographs)

These are photographs of the same bird taken a few seconds apart. Those two seconds make the difference between a goldfinch and a goldfinch with some class. I often take more than one shot, focus is almost always tricky on small birds meters away even with continuous focusing and vibration reduction. As the bird moves you try to get as many poses you can before it flies off. I would be happy with either shot given how small the bird is. In the end, a little patience over a very short period can give you more than one perfect shot. I am amazed at what a couple of seconds will do 🙂

  1. Very good photo, I know how tricky it can be to photograph small birds………….. I always seem to be a second too slow to capture them before they fly.

  4. Little birds can be such a challenge… Talk about a moving target! I think both shots turned out well – they illustrate fluffing and resting.
