Hover Fly (Two Photographs)

I always thought that flies were annoying, things to be swatted. However, the more chances I get to shoot them in the wild the more fascinating they are. Hover flies like these are good at protecting themselves from predators. They are fun to watch as they hover and dance over flowers; most importantly is their role in pollination. As adults they are pollinators of wild flowers. They tend to be quite photogenic, if not acrobatic.

  1. I really like the second composition with the diagonal stem and full on view of the hoverfly from above. Their eyes are massive!
