Landscape formats (Two Photographs)

In the past, magazines and books preferred photographs in the Portrait format (vertical), ambitious photographers who wanted spreads would shoot Landscape format (horizontal). Today you will notice that in forums like WordPress’ Reader, Portrait format is cropped by the web interface (not unusual). I have adapted for the most part and shoot mostly in Landscape format. This does not work so well with some subjects like people and most landscapes. Today’s post is of the same location, one in Portrait and the other Landscape format. Each has its merits, and I be would hard pressed to decide between them based on format but that is not always the case. It’s worth noting that some pros shoot in both formats to make sure they have a sale-able item in the end.

  2. I found the portrait rendering immediately more eye catching Victor. It leads me into the scene and invites exploration. The landscape version seems flat in comparison. Lovely image, thanks for sharing!

    • Thanks. Great, but it’s a format often challenged by how the web renders format.
