Damseflies (Two photographs)

After they mate, damselflies remain attached until the female lays her eggs. In one of these photographs you can see the female feeding while her mate looks the other way. We met someone in the park who was lamenting the lack of birds to photograph. I made my usual quip about it being the time to shoot insects. They then rattled off  the names of all the damselflies, dragonflies and other common insects in the park, saying they had taken pictures of them all. Now if you are working on a life list of captures that makes sense but as many of these creatures change during the season, find themselves in different light, do different things, I am not sure that it was a reasonable answer. In my view it is always nice to photograph new things but just as rewarding to hone your skills and/or take a common subject and get a different angle on it.

  1. I agree with your comments about new and old subjects. Even with something familiar, sometimes a different light, angle, or surrounding can lead to an excellent photo.
