Flying Ducks (Six Photographs)

(Please note that this is a series of Photographs and that if you are reading it in WordPress Reader, the software has randomly selected the photo shown first.)

This project took longer than it should have. The pictures were taken in back-lit lighting and cropped. This caused noise and every spot of dirt in the photographs was exaggerated. When you open up the shadows in post processing you get more noise but it does help the back lighting. If you sharpen you get exaggerated halos and the spots become more prominent. I chose to forego sharpening and only use Nik’s Detail Extractor, while the halos were much smaller this lead to more spots. Did I mention spots? It took considerable time to remove them. I wanted to have half the photos in color and the others in B&W to underline the detail and color in a unique way. The last photo shows the group of birds from which I selected the ones seen here. It would have been tough if not impossible to get as much detail out of the group under these circumstances.

  2. Victor, a nice series and I appreciate seeing the b&w in comparison to the color versions. The b&ws look very clean after all the work you’ve done in post-processing.

  4. What a marvelous series, Victor. I love it! #3 is very ‘Audubon’ – my favorite. I’d say it was worth your effort. 🙂
