Ambush Bugs (Three Photographs)

These were among the first of the small insects I attempted to capture when I began shooting insects. As a result I never miss a chance to shoot them. This was only one of two instances where I did not find them on goldenrod. To keep the noise down and the detail high I used flash; the downside is some florescence on the surface of the bug, accentuated by sharpening. The advantage of shooting them on another plant where they can be seen more clearly is that you can see their relatively giant claws.

Love the detailed look at their camouflage. I expect they can hide quite well in plain sight.
