Explaining Photography (Two Photographs)

You can read that photography is all about light and it’s a fact that the word derives from the Latin for light. You may also read that photography is all about your subject. There are many declarations about what photography is or is not and what makes a great photograph, after which many of us can agree to disagree. One thing I have not heard said in a long time is that photography is all about the eye and vision. Light and subject are elements of a photograph; the photographer’s job is to use them to make an image that has meaning for the photographer and his audience. I saw this bush and to me it looked like it was taking a bow, and while I prefer the first image, the second also has its merits.

  1. This is a wonderfully expressive image, Victor and yes, it does look like a graceful bow!

The shape I perceived reminds me more of an Indonesian puppet they use in shadow play…

  4. A good point well made. I can’t decide if it’s a bow or a curtsey, but either way it’s a lovely idea 🙂
