Catch Lights (Three Photographs)

Photographers who take portraits of people are often very concerned about getting realistic catch lights in the eyes of their subject. These tiny lights make the eyes come alive. Portrait and nature photographers often brighten the eyes in post-processing. These are some young geese I took last year. In the solo portrait you can see the face was turned into the light resulting in a catch light. In the other two photographs, you can see where I brightened the eyes and where I did not (it’s subtle but it can be seen). The important point is that in the one photo where I did not brighten the eyes, the photo looks flatter.
