A Burrowing Bee (and some words on eyes and appendages)

My best guess is that this is a burrowing bee. Its interesting eyes immediately caught my attention. Unfortunately, the bee chose not to turn to face me and while I prefer more dramatic poses this one seemed to work. We are drawn to eyes and photographers often say this is the one thing that must be in focus. In macro/close-up photography you may be constrained in how much is in focus in a single shot and usually an antenna or leg is out of focus (given the narrow depth of field). By concentrating on the eyes you cannot go far wrong. Context and scale for insects is another set of considerations, in this case the flower is an indicator of scale.
