Dragonfly Lighting (Two Photographs)

Dragonflies make marvelous subjects. They have multifaceted eyes that catch the light regardless of their position or whether you use flash or natural light. The whites you see are the reflections of the light and the eyes are much bigger than those spots. Removing these reflections is not easy because the hundreds of lenses in the eye have different colors or tones. Additionally digital camera sensors, in some cases, seem to exaggerate the reflections. As the season for dragonfly photography heats up this may be helpful to know.

  4. These are marvelous victor – I especially like the second. I find them very challenging I must admit – probably because I have a hard time sitting still waiting for them to hold still!!

  5. I like the top one best with the smiling uplifted wings. The second has sad droopy wings.
