Tulips, a Tulip Festival, and a bit of History (Three Photographs)

These are a new species of tulips, Canada 2017 Tulips, in honor of the 150th anniversary of Canada next year. These photos were taken at the annual May Tulip Festival in Ottawa. The Dutch, in gratitude for Canada caring for the Dutch royal family during WWII, give Canada tulip bulbs every year. The festival is quite busy with locals and tourists. It can he hard to focus on your own photography when there are other photographers every couple of feet along the beds of tulips. The depth of field approach to tulips, which I have used here, has a couple of things to consider: chromatic aberration or halos in out of focus flowers, deciding the depth of field and often your perspective or angle of view. The depth of field preview button on most cameras helps but not always enough. I will have a few more posts of different tulips coming over time.

  1. Wonderful photographs. The hardest subject I photograph is flowers. The difficulties can seriously test ones skills.

  2. Hi, Victor.
And thanks for the history notes! It always adds another dimension to an image.
