Black-Crowned Night Heron (Three Photographs)

This is the kind of situation where very long lenses come into their own as well as cameras with a lot of megapixels. The third photo is only cropped to 8 1/2 x 11 without any creative cropping. All the same adjustments to exposure, noise, sharpness etc. were made to that shot as well. Taken with a D500 (a 20 megapixel camera) with  a cropped sensor, at F 6.3 ISO640 and a 200-500mm lens hand-held. This allowed me to cross the water and get a very nice, if noisy shot. With long zooms getting cheaper Nikon had no choice but to put the 200-500 F5.6 lens on the market. The lens is much better than I expected.

Ha ! Great shots Victor. Crisp and clear. Skill and good equipment together make for wonderful catches like these. Some of the best Night Heron photos.
