Wood Duck and Her Chicks (Four Photographs)

This was taken at a small spill-off pond just on the outskirts of the reserve I frequent. Some Canada Geese distracted me and it took a few minutes before I saw the flotilla of wood ducks headed my way. The color of the water is just one of those things, it’s not the cleanest of water. In post I tightened up the shots by cropping, sharpening and adding a touch of tonal contrast. I made sure my main characters were well-lit and the contrast pleasing to the eye. The ducks turned in front of me and walked into the woods, what would you expect from wood ducks?
What a treat to watch these ducks in a row. I saw what ducks here last year but haven’t seen them again.

Such tight formation! She had her eye on you the whole time and kept her babies close by. Great series, Victor. Ducklings are so winsome.
