Milkweed Bug (Four Photographs)

Once a year it’s worth remembering that all bugs are insects, not all insects are bugs and spiders are not insects or bugs. I think clarity helps in visualizing the vast family of little creatures around us. I was expecting to see a lot more of these milkweed bugs but the weather and drought have not been good for anyone. So I was lucky to stumble on these nimble creatures. Their color warns predators that they do not taste great. While normally we would expect to see them on milkweed, which was not yet flowering when I took these photos, they are in fact found on other plants as well.
