Merganser Ducks (Three Photographs)

I came across these ducks when they seemed to be having a spat. I began shooting very quickly and kept going as they separated. Out of severely under exposed and noisy shots I was able to salvage these three. Increasing the exposure while keeping the highlights down, working with contrast, playing with shadows, levels and good noise reduction software solved the errors.

  1. When I see mergansers, I think of the cold season, when such ducks come through our area. They only need a patch of open water, which they find near us, even in sub-zero weather. They add color to otherwise steel gray days. Thank you for sharing these. Nice!

    • Thank you, these are relatively old, I saw a few last week, too far away to shoot.
