Eastern Kingbirds (Five Photographs)

Taken on August 2, 2016, this was the first time I saw the chicks in the nest (for background on nests read my post on Monday). The conditions were horrible, back-lighting, leaves flying in the wind between the birds and my camera. In addition, close cropping has enhanced the grain. These are some of the many photos I took in a very short period. Most of the time the birds seemed to have their eyes closed as if they were sensitive to the sunlight. I am ending with the parent flying in as a lead up to Friday’s post where there will be more shots of this nest.

  2. Wonderful photos of these kingbird fledglings! They look like “old men” when their head and neck feathers haven’t come in yet. 🙂 The photo with the parent flying in for the feeding is a cool action shot! I always enjoy your photos, Victor! 🙂

  3. I do get a sense of frustration in your writing. Reading the post I can understand why. However, under the circumstances they are a series of very good bird captures. Congrats!

  11. Wow, these are fascinating! I’ve never seen Eastern Kingbird chcks before. I like how this bird used a blue twist-tie or ribbon as part of the nest :-). Beautiful photos!

  13. Very aptly named “Kingbird” or may be its just your shots, but the little one has all the mannerisms of a “King”.
