Wood Duck Brood (Three Photographs)

I saved a few photographs of young birds to share over the rest of the year. Nothing beats the calm scene of a mother and her brood. In the last photo you can see them formed in a formal flotilla. I saw a lot of wood ducks this year in and out of color. The large number of chicks in these shots probably indicates that the female is babysitting a few for another female. Unfortunately the lighting was not great and I have had to increase the saturation in the blue water. Apart from that these were pretty easy to process.

  1. There are sure a lot of little ones. Baby sitting. Well, why not.

    • We have seen larger groups with one female sailing off, and another staying behind.

  2. 16 sure is a big group – hopefully for her sake it is a class and not a family.
