Squirrel (Two Photographs)

There is nothing like the plaintive call of small young squirrels. Sometimes they are reacting to the approach of a human, sometimes a bird or other threat. When I hear it and it’s obviously my approach, I will move along. This time the chirping stopped as I looked up and so I took these photos. As I left the chirping began again, something else might have made it nervous. In the forest the camera’s light meter tends to reflect the dark light, one can use exposure compensation to improve the light, or fix this in processing (with an exposure change, contrast, luminance masks). I prefer exposure compensation, but if the choice is between missing a shot and fixing it in camera, I opt for the shot. The background is as shot, not a Photoshop add-in.
Terrific!

Love the composition, curled tail and all, and color in the background. These little devils are so cute.
