Black-Crowned Night Heron (Four Photographs) and A Happy New Year

A Happy New Year to all.

I was lucky to catch this bird just sticking its landing. The lighting and color were going to be an issue, in camera some extra negative exposure compensation would have helped in the whites. In my view a little latitude can be allowed for birds in flight moving through different if minor lighting changes. We did not see many of these herons  in 2016 (these photos were taken in May). I realize that my posts often speak to processing and that not everyone is interested in that aspect of photography and moreover an Apple based workflow. So in the future those details will be at the end of the post. These photographs were processed in Lightroom, overall sharpening in Photoshop, noise reduction in Noiseless CK, details and other touch-ups in MacPhun’s Luminar.

Great shots capturing the landing. The back ground is lovely and the turtle is a bonus.

I hadn’t seen very many this year until just a week ago. No shots since they were on a small marsh island, maybe 20. Great captures.

    • These were taken some time back. It’s the frozen north up here right now, the herons are smart they leave. Happy New Year

  8. Wow, that turtle didn’t even flinch. If that was a human approaching, he’d be gone in a millisecond.
Nice stop-action shots where you can really see the landing gear out in front – so cool. 🙂
Happy New Year, Victor. Hope ’17 is good to you!

  11. A beautiful heron, as usual. I loved seeing the pair of tortoises, too.

  12. Great captures. I need to learn Photoshop. Lightroom doesn’t take out noise the way I would like it to. Your editing is super.

    • Thank you. Get the Nik collection from Google it’s free and it has noise reduction software that is excellent, works as a plugin to lightroom.
