Cardinal Taking a Bath (Three Photographs)

I took  several photographs of this scene. It occurred suddenly and I was not aware I was under-exposing the shots. This is typical when an opportunity comes up when I am not as ready as I should be. Fortunately shooting RAW files provides significant latitude to rescue shots from errors like this.

  1. Birds always look like they’re having so much fun when they bathe. I always enjoy watching them! 🙂 The red in its plumage stands out so well, even wet. Cool looking reflections as well. Wonderful capture, Victor!

  4. Great shots. I can’t tell they were underexposed to start with.

  6. Great series of shots. Love the expression and reflection in the first and the way you captured the second shot. I have found the cardinal to be one of the most difficult birds to photograph between the coloring and sharpness.

  10. Wow, I really like this, I like how the colours are bright yet at the same time not fully saturated. I had a male cardinal feeding at our birdfeeder a few days ago, It really stood out against the white snow.
