Nuthatch (Three Photographs) and Some Thoughts on Photography

You often hear it said that photography requires a lot of patience. The patience to wait for the right moment, the patience to get all the mechanical pieces in place and the patience to work the photo when you shoot it and when you process it. Anticipation and patience may be confused here. I anticipate what I am going to shoot. That dictates the camera and lens I take out into the field, the settings I start with, and my approach to my subject (do I want it to face me, be in profile etc.). Patience may be a more appropriate expression when one is wrangling with software on the processing side. Anticipation sounds a lot less onerous that patience. Standing in a great spot waiting for a nuthatch to happen along that’s the kind of patience I lack.

  9. Lovely shots of this perky bird and snazzy red leaf accent! Well said on the patience. I’m happily going out to practice some this morning.

    • Thanks. Wish I could, it’s freezing cold outside with an awful wind. Few more weeks to go before it’s pleasant.

      • I know that weather makes spring seem sweeter, but don’t miss even what we had in Connecticut at all. Stay warm!
