Dragonflies (Three Photographs)

As I never manage to get going really early or stay out late, most of my photos are taken in the middle of the day. This runs against most photography books prime contention that the golden hour or blue hour for that matter is best for photography (which I am not disputing). It’s just that interesting light and nature doing its thing happens all day and bright sunlight keeps my shutter speed where I like it. Working with daylight runs the risk of backlit subjects more highlights and shadows. However I cope and it works for me, especially with animals.
I feel better now about my mid day photo shoots 🙂 I do like the mid flight dragon fly and the black and white treatmemt.

Thank you, daylight is much maligned in photography.

Love the mid-flight capture, Victor. Your shots make dragonflies seem so personable. The last one looks like he is cocking his head and smiling for the camera!

Excellent shots, Victor, especially the in-flight shot that is incredibly hard to capture successfully. I love how you can see the legs tucked up while in flight. I amimpatinet for it to get warm enough for these colorful aerial acrobats to reappear.

Beautiful captures. I tend to love full light too, especially deep in the sylvan wilderness. Backlighting can also be a delight to play with, I have found. Wonderful resplendent portraits.
