Female Cardinals (Three Photographs)

Lovely birds but hard to shoot, as they are very skittish. Slight movement sends them away fast. Female Cardinals are one of the few birds I will go out of my way to shoot because inevitably they make marvelous subjects. I believe the bird here is held captive by indecision. Someone had laid down seeds on the stump and the bird could flee or eat. I chose to snap a few shots and get out of the way. Over the course of a summer some birds become familiar with humans and are less skittish, but not these birds.

  2. These birds make for beautiful photographs, like yours! They are very skittish, except when it snows and hunger drives them out toward bird feeders.
