One of Those Things… (Two Photographs)

This photograph of a mallard has a certain classic look to it in color and in black and white. The colors and tonality work well. Photographers make choices when they select photos from a shoot, more get trashed than saved. But not all problems are deserving of the bin. These photographs were not quite as sharp as they look now, and the histogram showed some colors were clipped. Nonetheless, I gave it a go and the results exceeded my expectations. My own take on the choosing of photographs is to err on keeping rather than discarding; some photographs can be retouched quite well. These are old photographs published for the first time.

  1. The colors in the reflections, not to mention his head, make color a must for this shot, IMO. He’s too beautiful to hide in B&W!

  3. You did right to hold on to these, although I must admit to taking the opposite tack and err on the side of discarding photos. Otherwise I’m drowning in them.
