What A Fuss! (Three Photographs)

Relations between photographers and birders can sometimes be tense. Recently there was a hullabaloo over the feeding of birds. The debate started with the baiting of snowy owls with mice and ended with people objecting to feeding chickadees on the trail. There are two sides to this; those who think nature should be left to its own devices; and those who understand that the owls come south because they are hungry (its been a cruel winter and birds in general could use some help). No one mentioned bird feeders. I am not going to take sides. I do think both arguments make good points and both sides have extremists. Doesn’t that sound like every other public argument you have ever heard? As the focus moves from owls to other birds, the argument becomes too complex to resolve. These are old photographs published for the first time.

  2. I wonder if any of those who think that “nature should be left to its own devices” are willing to go out naked into the wilderness and fend for themselves……

  3. Folks can be quite passionate, can’t they? Great shots of this jaunty little bird that is more than happy to be fed!

  4. These little guys bravely stay in a nearby bush while I fill the feeders… they know I’m a ‘friendly’ 😉
