Thoughts on Black and White (Two Photographs)

Clearly for scientific purposes and identification of birds good color reproduction is vital. However, from an artistic point of view, birds can look quite nice in black and white. Before color photography and before color photography was affordable, the majority of nature shots were taken in black and white. When I processed this hairy woodpecker in black and white I was pleasantly surprised by the results. Some may still prefer color and I have included one as well.
