A Young Great Blue Heron (Three Photographs)

On my DSLR, in addition to fully manual exposure and auto ISO, I have been experimenting with the various metering modes to give me some advice on exposure in the viewfinder and I am finding spot metering an effective guide. For animals, especially birds, spot metering will help focus your attention on the subject. In these photos the background (grass and water) may come out overexposed, in this case I desaturated them slightly.
