The Dance (Three Photographs)

In fall, as the weather gets cooler Ducks who go under water do this wild dance to shake off the water. It makes for dramatic shots. Catching the ducks at just the right moment is part of the game. Just because they have dived or dunked you cannot expect them to do it every time. Some days I will stand waiting and miss every opportunity. But over a week I was able to get a few series of this activity in different light, so expect to see more.

  1. When I was at one of my favorite places to shoot, the ducks started going absolutely wild! Skimming across the water really fast, then dunking, then flapping, with a bit of preening, only to go off wild again. As much as I have observed ducks and geese, I have never seen a huge lot of them do it all at once!

  4. That first photo is especially great with the water droplets everywhere. The body stays amazingly still despite the wing action. Lovely captures, Victor.
