Birds in lighting conditions like this act like back-lit subjects and halo easily with sharpening, so minimal sharpening was used here. My efforts in increasing the contrast and lowering highlights and shadows were designed to highlight the bird. It’s slightly exaggerated and in future I will try another variation of this. In black and white there are many variables so it takes some effort to get things exactly as you would like.
