Just a Flower (Three Photographs)

I took this with a lens equivalent to 135mm on a full frame camera. That length is good for portraits, flowers, some animal shots and some street work. The first colour shot is cropped to 8×10 inches, a standard framing format. The second crop is 1×1 square crop. I have read that shooting for that format can improve your photography, but I am unclear as to why. I use 1×1 when it’s appropriate in my view. The third photo is a straight black and white. I can think of several more ways to work this flower in post-processing, but I like these. I often find myself trying different approaches to the same photograph, I think it does the subject justice to find the best solution and here I have shown some of my thinking.
