Considerations on the Photographing of Flowers (Three Photographs)

As I write this we are some time away from opportunities for flower photography. But I wanted to remind myself of some of the considerations to bear in mind when shooting and processing flowers. First is to take photos from different angles. In terms of composition think about negative space and leading lines. Remember that some flower colours will not reproduce precisely as we saw them in the field (the web and print have very small ranges of colour compared to reality). Watch out for highlights, shadows are your friend. In processing take care with sharpening as hallows around leaves is a constant threat. Watch the contrast and highlight blow outs, let the blacks go totally black. Hope this helps.
