We were lucky that the flooding receded enough for us to catch a few of the smaller birds this year. Tiny birds, hard to shoot so I was lucky to get some shots of this Redstart, my first. Using spot metering meant I had a better chance of getting a clearly exposed photo of this primarily back lit bird.

That is an American Redstart, a warbler that breeds in this country. The Blackburnian is a migrant in spring and fall. Both have orange and black but the redstart’s head is all black, like your photo. It is a lovely photo of a beautiful bird.
