Noisy, territorial and sometimes menacing is the general view of red-winged blackbirds. Let’s just say I can understand that. From a photographic perspective the detail in the bird is hard to shoot and the red often looks artificial. So I decided to use Nikon’s Highlight weighted metering instead of the normal spot metering. The results are dark requiring more working post-processing but the highlights are protected. As I try this new (for me) feature I will see how it goes. The shadows are not great and I will focus on that issue as I learn more about this mode.
