We raise the ISO to stop action, and use auto white balance in the field for simplicity’s sake. Combine the two while shooting redwing blackbirds and what you get is less detail in the feathers and a brighter red in the red feathers. In short, less dynamic range and more contrast. Two reasons why the black and white photos, in my opinion, are better photographs.
